After a year and a half away, The Artist’s Work Ethic Podcast is officially coming back.
In this short relaunch episode, I share why I stepped away, what changed during the break, and how the podcast is evolving moving forward.
This next chapter focuses less on schedules and numbers—and more on meaningful, in-depth conversations with artists across music, film, writing, and more.
Expect a less formulaic approach, video episodes where possible, and a renewed focus on the habits, mindset, and work ethic behind creative success.
Welcome to the Artist Work Ethic Podcast. I'm Mike Pelak. I'm just dropping a quick episode here to let you know it's been going on since it's been about a year and a half since my last episode. The short answer is that the podcast is coming back better than it was before. The long answer is that I needed some time away from the podcast. You know, there are so many aspects of this that I love doing, but it requires a tremendous amount of time and energy, and I was hitting a point where life and other projects just had to take precedence for a while. But the time away has allowed me to rethink the podcast, both how I approach it and how I operate it. I've absolutely loved the conversations I've gotten to have and the opportunity to interview musicians and writers and directors and actors and so many others who have had profound impacts on my life. It's easy to get caught up in things like chasing download numbers, filling a scheduled slot, or finding yourself compromising somewhere. Coming back this time around, I'm not going to worry about things like a schedule or downloads. I'm going back to the reason I started this podcast, to have interesting conversations with incredible artists to understand the unique ways they've been able to be productive and successful in the types of careers that most can only dream of. I want to make the episodes and conversations a little less formulaic than they might have come across before. I think this is good information that can be used practically, and I want people to take some inspiration from it to go follow their dreams. I'm also going to put out the video where possible. That's something new. If this is your first time here, or if you're a casual listener, a few of my favorite episodes that I'd recommend you listen to are episode 69 with Frank Aero from My Chemical Romance, episode 74 with X-Files creator Chris Carter, and episode 40 with Ian Mackay from Minor Threat in Fugazi. I've got some really great episodes coming up for this season two of the podcast. A few I've already recorded, so keep an eye on your podcast feed and go check out my Instagram at the ArtistWorkethic Podcast.
